Goals of Career Development

The goal of career counseling is to assist clients in career and growth development by providing the following services:

  • To help participants interpret that a career decision will impact all areas of one's life.
  • To help individuals learn more about themselves by utilizing an interest inventory or systematic guide to identify likes and dislikes.
  • Assist individuals in developing and implementing a plan after carful consideration of all possibilities; a step-by-step process to achieve goals.
  • To ensure individuals that goals are individualized, realistic and achievable.

Available Resources

The Personal Development Specialist can assist students/individuals in planning their career by providing information on the following:

  1. Strategies for Career Planning
  2. Interest and Aptitude Test
  3. Occupational Exploration
  4. Education and Training Requirements
  5. Job Seeking-Job Keeping Skills
  6. Resume Writing

Assistance is also available in the areas of Adult Basic Education, General Education Development, preparation and GED testing.

Additional workshops are offered on "Employers' Expectations", "Job Readiness Skills", "Job Campaign Organization", "Common Mistakes Made on Applications", "Writing an Effective Resume", and "How to Answer Difficult Interview Questions".

UNIQUE SERVICES

  • Coordinate with academic and vocational counselors to provide services to students and faculty at CCC Skill/Tech Center.
  • Participate with the career resource center team in order to serve business and industry in the community.
  • Assist in identifying and assessing the requirements of the area's workforce.
  • Cooperate with the Mississippi Employment Security Commission, the Department of Human Services, area Chamber of Commerce, area casinos and other agencies in the promotion of job development, placement, surveys and follow-up.
