Biographical Sketch

Vivian Mathews Presley was appointed President of Coahoma Community College in 1992.  Dr. Presley became the first woman president of Coahoma Community College and she is the first and only woman president of a public-supported community college in Mississippi.

She has served Coahoma Community College for over 25 years in several capacities including Counselor, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Executive Vice President.

Dr. Presley is a native of Clay County (West Point) Mississippi and the daughter of the late Mr. B. Mathews and the late Mrs. Lula Mathews.

She attended the public schools of West Point and received her Bachelors, Masters and Doctor of Education degrees from Mississippi State University.

She serves on many boards and organizations.  Some include:

Board of National League for Nursing

Deposit Guaranty Bank Board of Directors

Board of the Northwest Regional Medical Center

Northwest District Board for Girl Scouts

Commissioner for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)

Some of her honors include:

• Mississippi State University Alumnae of the Year for the College of Education 2002.
• One of the Top Business Women in the Mississippi Delta.
• Employee of the Year by the Business and Professional Woman’s Organization
• National Recognition Award by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
• Mississippi Trailbrazer, 2004
• Black Expo Women of the Year

She is presently a member of Haven United Methodist Church in Clarksdale, MS.  She has one son Julian, daughter-n-law, Chelesa, and three grandchildren, Jay, Ciera and Jenson.
