PRACTICAL NURSING

Practical Nursing is a twelve-month certificate program. The Practical Nursing program prepares students to assist in providing general nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse, physician, or dentist.
Graduates of the Practical Nursing program will be awarded the Certificate of Practical Nursing and may apply for licensure to the Mississippi Board of Nursing and will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX)-PN.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENT AND SELECTION PROCEDURES
The LPN program taught at Coahoma Community College is selective and competitive like other programs around the State. We are limited to 30 students in the Fall program and 30 students in the Spring progam.
The Admissions Committee has set as a minimum requirement for admission to the Practical Nursing program following:
- Applicant must be 18 years of age at the start of class.
- Must be of good moral character and should not have a record of conviction of a felony.
- Having such a record may make him/her ineligible to obtain clinical experience and /or ineligible for licensure with the Sate Board of Nursing.
- Must be a high school graduate or have an equivalent score on the General Education Development Test (GED). You must show proof by submitting a copy of high school transcript and diploma.
- An ACT composite score of at least 17 with scores of at least 14 in reading and math
or
- A score on the Accuplacer Test that equals a 17 on ACT.
Students will be admitted according to the following criteria:

A&P I________ (A=4 points, B=3 points, C=2 points)

Scores will be added and applicants with the highest score will be considered first.
We highly recommend you take A&P I & II. You must make at least a “C” for it to give you points.
The State Board of Nursing may deny application licensure due to conviction of felony, commission of fraud or deceit in the application process, or addiction to alcohol or drugs. Criminal background checks may deny students access to clinical agencies and disqualify the student from participation in the program.
If you meet one of the minimum requirements and wish to apply for the program, you must:
- Apply to attend Coahoma Community College
- Pick up and Complete an application package from the Practical Nursing building or Sigmond Building on campus. Submit “COMPLETED “application to Admissions office before assigned date. ONLY COMPLETED APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR INTERVIEWS. (No Exception).
- Attach to the application a copy of your ACT or Accuplacer Test Scores, College Transcript and copies of other medical certificates you might have.
- Submit this information to the Admission Office before assigned date. (No Exception).
- If college transcript shows courses currently in progress, you will need to attach up dated final grades before assigned date.
- Invalid or incomplete applications will not be returned nor considered at a later date.
Application packets may be picked up at the Allied Health Building after September 1 for Spring class and after February 1 for Fall class and returned to Registrar's Office.
Completed application will be given to the Admissions Committee after the Assigned Date deadline to be evaluated and applicants will then be selected for personal interviews.
