Co-Lin wins defensive battle 16-15
CLARKSDALE –With record crowds celebrating a glorious Homecoming beneath rare sunny skies, the Coahoma Community College Tigers came up one point short in its 16-15 defensive tug-of-war with Copiah-Lincoln’s Wolfpack.
Following an exchange of field goals, the first half ended in a 3-3 tie. The Tigers quickly scored a go-ahead 10-3 touchdown in the third quarter answered by Co-Lin overcoming CCC’s defensive goal line stand for by TD.
However, the Wolfpack’s PAT was no good, and Co-Lin trailed 10-9 at the end of the third quarter.
Despite successful gains by Tiger running back Courtney Vaughan, incomplete passes barred Coahoma from the end zone.
But kicker Reid Gallagher nailed a field goal, and CCC advanced 13-9.
Returning the kickoff to the 37, Co-Lin began moving with quarterback Percy Turner taking charge with a touchdown, PAT and the Wolfpack’s first lead at 16-13.
Although Coahoma did not make first down yardage, Gallagher booted the ball to the 1 yard line, and the Tigers savaged Co-Lin for a safety and inched upward two more points.
However, the Wolfpack dominated the remainder of the game offensively.
Coahoma plays East Mississippi Thursday, Oct. 1, at home.
