CLARKSDALE – Still “high” over Coahoma’s historic 30-20 win over Itawamba during a driving rainstorm here Thursday night, CCC’s coaching staff, school officials, and players are being inundated with best wishes and messages of congratulations.
The victory marks CCC’s first winning season and state playoff appearance since Coahoma joined the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges in 1975, according to Freeman Horton, athletic director and head football coach.
Despite late hours and short sleep, Horton reports his staff and players remain elated over the win and are making playoff travel plans.
“Congratulations on your playoff berth,” writes David Rosinski, sports information director for East Mississippi Community College.
“I am so happy for you guys; you’ve earned this opportunity through hard work and great play down the stretch,” he continues.
Bill Snyder, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s SID writes, “Congratulations on the post-season! Don’t know if we’re playing you guys…but if so, I will be in touch.”
Representing Jones County Junior College’s Public Relations, Teresa Martin sends greetings, and calls CCC’s win “awesome.”
Coahoma plays the winner of Saturday’s match between Mississippi Gulf Coast and JCJC.
More congratulatory messages were sent from Bubby Johnston, vice president and SID at East Central Community College, and Natalie Davis, public relations director at CoLin.
The state playoff will take place either in Ellisville at JCJC or the campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast CC.
To reach the playoffs, Coahoma won its last three games including a four OT 20-14 win over Northeast in Booneville Oct. 15, and a 41-36 victory over Northwest in Senatobia Oct. 8.
