Darrell Dixon selected Congressional Fellow
STONEVILLE – Darrell Keith Dixon Jr. of Clarksdale, an honor graduate of Coahoma Community College and a senior political science major with a 4.0 grade point average at Delta State University has been selected to participate in The Congressional Fellowship Program in Washington, D.C., and will be working in the office of U.S. Senator Thad Cochran.
Offering a unique educational opportunity for an outstanding student in the Mississippi Delta, the program, is sponsored by DSU in collaboration with Delta Council and is endowed by Staplcotn.
According to Fellowship officials, fellows gain knowledge of the congressional system and track legislation while developing knowledge of public policy issues that directly affect the Delta Region.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Keith Dixon of Clarksdale, Dixon was salutatorian of his graduating class at Coahoma and is proficient in Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL). He and his family attend St. Matthews Church of God in Christ in Lambert and Kelly Chapel Church of God in Christ in Robinsonville.
At DSU, he is a President’s List Scholar, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society member, and a member of Phi Gamma Mu Honor Society.
Each year a fellow is selected to serve during the spring semester as an intern in the Washington office of Senator Cochran, and the internship may be extended into the summer .
Candidates must have an outstanding grade point average at DSU, a record of community involvement and service and high communications skills. The fellow receives a tuition waiver of 12 semester hours that may be applied to credit-based internship courses taken during the Fellowship at DSU.
