Position Title:  XR Academy Instructor/Facilitator

Department:   Workforce Development

Immediate Supervisor’s Title:  Executive Director Workforce Development

Positions Supervised:  No

Term of Positions:  12 months

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver and guide students through the curriculum in the specified LMS
  • Facilitate student learning by leading lessons and hands-on projects
  • Manage student projects and deliverables based on curriculum guidelines
  • Have a working knowledge of how to organize files, research, and troubleshoot development questions
  • Have a working knowledge of technology and a desire to learn more about XR specific development tools
  • Be a “lead learner” as the industry tools and software are constantly changing
  • Provide feedback to curriculum team on items for troubleshooting and updating curriculum elements as needed
  • If applicable, work with development company on artifacts and elements for commercialized products to be taken to market
  • Create a learning environment that fosters creativity, open ideas, and a safe place to experiment and learn and collaborate
  • Identify student strengths and encourage pathway of speciality based on those skills
  • Look for opportunities to enhance soft-skill learning within the development curriculum

  • Ability to be creative and find solutions to problems, or foresee future issues

  • Curious and excited to learn and lead a learning environment
  • Have an interest in XR technology, 3D design, C++ coding, material creation, sound design, lighting, or animation
  • Be able to constantly learn to stay up to date with the technology changes in the industry

Extended Skills, not Required

  • 2+ years experience developing with Unity or Unreal Engine
  • Proficiency with C# or C++, and strong knowledge of game development programming
  • Strong knowledge of game development pipeline, tools, and concepts (3D modeling, animation, shader design, etc)
  • Strong knowledge of VR design concepts and development requirements
  • Experience creating a VR game or application
  • Experience tutoring or teaching game development concepts
  • Experience modeling and animating in Maya or 3ds Max

The position of the XR Academy Instructor/Facilitator is unique as it does not require the instructor to be the expert in the field of study. Instead, the right instructor will have a naturally curious mind, especially in the field of XR related technologies. A background in certain technical fields would have certain advantages, but are not necessary to the position. A strong leader, good communicator, and creative mind will work well in this position.
