Elizabeth Melton is proud to help carry out Coahoma Community College’s mission to provide a quality education and opportunity for advancement for those in the Mississippi Delta.

“We are a homegrown college with a dedicated faculty and staff who possess a unique knowledge of our students’ needs,” said Melton, a history instructor.

Melton joined CCC’s faculty in January 2003.  She received an associate’s degree in Business from Mississippi Delta Community College and both a bachelor’s degree in Social Science Education and a master’s degree in History Education from Delta State University. In 2005, Melton was nominated for the Lamplighters award and was honored as CCC’s 2010 Higher Education Appreciation Day, Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) Teacher of the Year.

Melton believes each of CCC’s students possess the ability to make an enormous impact in the world.

“As an instructor I want to encourage students to be more cognizant of the world in which they live. Each person has a valuable contribution to make and that they should take every advantage of opportunities to grow and learn,” said Melton. “The great Chinese philosopher Confucius once said, ‘If one wants to define the future, they must study the past.’  I hope to impart both a desire to learn and a desire to make a difference in this world.”

Melton’s enjoys reading historical fiction, mystery and thriller books. She also enjoys spending time with her family, working out at the gym and gardening.
