Heart Awareness Month

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. To prevent heart disease and increase awareness of its effects, CCC Fit for Life is proudly participating in American Heart Month February 20 – February 24, 2017.  To promote awareness for heart health month, we are asking campus students and employees to wear red during this week.

Fit for Life is offering free blood pressure checks and personal and group fitness opportunities to promote healthy hearts.  You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors are also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk: Watch your weight. Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.  Control your cholesterol and blood pressure. Get active and eat healthy.

  • Cardiovascular disease, listed as the underlying cause of death, accounts for nearly 801,000 deaths in the US. That’s about 1 of every 3 deaths in the US.
  • About 2,200 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day, an average of 1 death every 40 seconds.
  • Cardiovascular diseases claim more lives each year than all forms of cancer and Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease combined.
