Position Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer

Department: Athletics

Immediate Supervisor’s Title: Assistant Athletic Director and Head Athletic Trainer      

Positions Supervised: Student Athletic Trainers

Term of Position: 10 months

Minimum Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of specialization with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and Mississippi Athletic Training Licensure. Entry level graduates with the NATABOC will be considered.

Position Summary: The assistant athletic trainer duties include working with the Head Athletic Trainer to prevent, evaluate, manage and rehabilitate injuries and illnesses related to sports within Coahoma Community College and Coahoma Early College High School's comprehensive sports medicine program.

The primary responsibilities will consist of the following:

  • Assist with the prevention, evaluation, treatment of athletic injuries and illnesses.
  • Assist with the compilation, input, organization, and maintenance of all medical records on student athletes.
  • Provide medical coverage for Coahoma Early College High School football and basketball games and practices along with the Coahoma Community College sports primarily football, softball, baseball, and track.
  • Advise and direct the student athletic trainers with any and all duties.
  • Work with physicians and other allied healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with the enforcement of codes of conduct and policies of the athletic training facilities, equipment and sports medicine protocols.
  • Assist with the safety of the athletic equipment to aid in the purchase of protective equipment, and to facilitate proper methods of fitting athletic equipment.
  • Work in conjunction with the coaches in regard to the strength, conditioning, and flexibility of student athletes, nutritional issues, supplements, ergogenic aids, injury prevention, exercise technique, and rehabilitation of injured student athletes.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or Athletic Directors.
