The Coahoma Community College menís basketball team seemed poised to start off its MACJC North schedule with a win on Thursday night jumping out to a quick start and leading the visiting Northwest Rangers throughout the first half. The Tigers (1-6, 0-1 in MACJC North) were running the floor well scoring in transition and also scoring from behind the 3-point arc hitting four, 3-pointers in the first half and heading into the locker room with a 45-39 halftime lead.

CCC Basketball fans were taken on a roller coaster ride in the second half as both teams put together streaks of brilliance tossing the momentum back-and-forth throughout the final 15:00. Northwest took their first lead of the game 52-50 at that mark and followed up scoring ten consecutive points including three, 3-pointers. The Rangers pushed that lead to 15 points (68-53) with just under 10:00 to play before the Tigers roared back to tie the game at 70-70.

The 17-2 run was sparked by back-to-back 3-point baskets by CCCís AlDario Alexander, and another 3-point bucket by Markevius Brown, who also dropped a 2-point basket during the stretch. The Tigers had the opportunity take the lead but a traveling violation gave the ball back to Northwest and helped the Rangers finish the game on a 13-6 run, and the eventual 83-76 win.

Brown finished with 13 points to lead the Tigers in the losing effort with Xavier Graves adding 10, and Darcee Carson, Anthony Dorsey and Anthony Stroggins each chipping in eight.

Lady Tigers 66, Lady Rangers 73

Coahoma had trouble throughout Thursday nightís ballgame with the full court pressure applied by Northwest. The Lady Tigersí (1-5, 0-1 in MACJC North) committed turnovers turned into early transition baskets for the Lady Rangers who shot just 31 percent from the floor (hitting just 22 of 71 shots).

The Lady Tigers were outscored 13-6 in the gameís first five minutes, but kept things close in the first half connecting on 12-of-16 free throw attempts.

Led by Ashley Smithís 10 second-half points, Coahoma outplayed the lady Rangers in the second half and pulled to within four points of the lead on five different occasions, but could never get any closer in the second half. Northwest would hit 16-of-22 free throws in the second half and score 23 total points from the charity stripe to keep the lady Tigers at bay.

Shontrell Williams led Coahoma scoring 15 points with Amber Sisk adding 13 and Smith finishing with 10 points in the losing effort.
