Coahoma Community College's Robert Mondie will be taking his talents to the University of Alabama-Birmingham to play deffensive tackle for the Blazers next fall.

CLARKSDALE — Robert Mondie came to Coahoma Community College this fall after initially attending Pearl River Community College as a freshman, and now next fall he will be lining up on the defensive line for the University of Alabama-Birmingham. He will enroll at UAB this spring semester and major in business.

Mondie, listed at 6-foot-2 and 300 pounds, never suited up during his freshman season at Pearl River, and although technically he has just two years of eligibility, he may petition for a third because of that reason. Originally from Memphis, TN (Melrose High School), the Tigers leading tackler in 2013 was also recruited by Middle Tennessee State University, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Austin Peay, Murray State, Arkansas State and Southeastern Louisiana.

Mondie had 49 tackles this season at CCC (23 solo), and three of those were for losses.

“Robert was our most consistent player all year long defensively,” said Athletic Director Freeman Horton, who coach Mondie in 2013. “He played in every game, he’s very aggressive and he plays the same way he practices. He practices extremely hard, and he plays hard and I think that will be his biggest attribute at the next level. He has the work ethic and mentality to turn himself into a really great player at the next level.”
