CLARKSDALE – Registration for 2014 spring classes at Coahoma Community College is ongoing as the Jan. 17 deadline fast-approaches.

Coahoma Community College Director of Admissions and Records Michael Houston said although things got off to a slow start during the early registration period, they’re picking up with the deadline looming in less than two weeks.

“We’ve gotten off to a slow start, and I suspect the weather may have played a factor in that,” said Houston. “But the closer we get to the January 17th deadline, we’re expecting things to pick up. We just need students to come on in.”

To begin their registration process, returning students must first meet with their advisor who will work with them to identify needed courses. Then, the student must visit the Admissions Department, located in the Vivian M. Presley Administration building, to be officially enrolled in the courses.

New students, as well as transfer students, should start their registration process at the Admissions Department, where they’ll be required to submit an application, an official high school transcript/ACT score and a copy of their social security card. The student must then visit the Financial Aid Department and meet with their advisor, who will assign them a class schedule that they must take to the Admissions Department to become enrolled in.

For an added convenience, students can fill out an application for admission and apply for financial aid online as well, Houston said.

Houston encourages more students to take advantage of early registration in the future.

“It makes the process much faster when students take care of everything up front,” he said. “Plus, if they register early they won’t have to come out during the registration process; they’ll miss the crowds, and they won’t have to worry about any lines.”

The 2014 spring semester officially began Monday, Jan. 6., but students can still enroll for the spring semester without penalty. For more information about registration for the Spring 2014 semester, please call the Admission’s Office at (662) 621-4696 or by email at
