SENATOBIA — The Tigers looked to get back into MACJC win column early Thursday night on the road against Northwest leading by as much 10 early in the second half, but they allowed the Rangers to pull ahead late and pick up the North Division win, 91-81.

Northwest (5-2 MACJC and 9-7 overall) scored 25 of its points from the foul line, doubling the number of free throw attempts as the visiting Tigers, attempting 34 foul shots to the Tigers’ 16. The Rangers bench also outscored Coahoma (3-4 MACJC and 5-12 overall) by a 37-21 margin.

Darcee Carson (Cleveland, MS) led the Tigers scoring 23 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Markevius Brown (Mound Bayou, MS) knocked down 20 points and Billy Jackson (Tunica, MS) added 11 points in the losing effort.

Lady Tigers
It was a rough evening for the Lady Tigers in Senatobia getting off to slow start and managing to score just 12 first-half points and staking the Lady Rangers to a 30-12 lead at the break. NWCC would extend that lead to as much as 27 late in the game and eventually pickup the win, 67-44.

Coahoma (0-6 in MACJC and 1-13 overall) was led in scoring by Ariel Jones (Canton, MS) who put up a double-double in the losing effort scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Gabrielle Gilbert (Pine Bluff, AR) added seven points and snatched a dozen rebounds.

The Lady Rangers (4-3 in MACJC and 10-5 overall) took advantage of their size scoring nearly half of their points (32) inside the paint. The Lady Tigers connected on just 13 of 67 shots (1-of-14 from behind the arc) in the loss.

Coahoma Community College will now face five-consecutive MACJC opponents to close out the regular season beginning Monday night as they host Itawamba. Both the Indians (7-0) and Lady Indians (6-1) are currently in first place in the North Division.

Tip-off for Monday’s women’s game is slated for 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m. Come out and register for a chance to win a Walmart gift certificate at halftime playing “Minute to Win it” sponsored by the CCC athletic department.
