CCC’s 2014 Springfest Kicks Off with Knowledge Bowl
CLARKSDALE – Springfest 2014 officially kicked off Monday with some intellectual thought and stimulation among Coahoma Community College students as they participated in a Knowledge Bowl.
Dozens of students gathered and appeared to enjoy the friendly competition between two teams, the Red Team and the White Team, as they faced off and answered questions about everything from sports to politics and the history of Coahoma Community College.
In the end, the Red Team, which included students Jaterrian Wren, Christan Williams, Michael Hardy, Corterrium Johnson and Derrell Lewis, walked away as champs with a score of 13-8 victory.
The event was just one of many events planned for students this week.
“Springfest is always an exciting time at the institution,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Gregory Hudson. “The ultimate goal is to empower the Student Government Association (SGA) to provide a week of safe, fun-filled, and meaningful activities for the student body. As academics are always at the forefront, students typically embrace this week because it yields to stress relievers after the academic day has ended.”
Monday’s activities capped off with a Midnight Breakfast held at 10 p.m. in the student union, and the activities will pick back up Tuesday, April 8, with a Fashion Show at 7 p.m. in the Georgia Lewis Theatre. Wednesday will feature a “Tiger Fest” at 11 a.m. in “The Pit” and a Neon Party at 8 p.m. in the student union. The week will conclude Thursday with the annual Coronation, which will be highlighted by the crowning of Mr. & Miss CCC 2014-2015, at 7 p.m. in The Pinnacle.
