CCC Students “Rip the Runaway” During Springfest
CLARKSDALE – There was standing room only in CCC’s Georgia Lewis Theater as students gathered to watch their peers “strut their stuff” down the runway during a fashion show Tuesday night.
The event was sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs as part of the annual Springfest, a week-long event filled with fun activities for CCC students to enjoy.
“We saw students really were interested in participating in a fashion show earlier this semester during the HIV Awareness Day (Rock the Red) fashion show, so we looked at putting one together as part of Springfest activities,” said Eugene Brown, CCC’s director of student activities and one of the event’s organizers.
“Everybody was excited about it,” said Sophomore Malcom Campbell, a student member of the Public Information and Student Activities committee. “This event gave students something fun to do and added to the campus life. It was chance to experience the fun side of education.”
Interested students auditioned to model during the fashion show earlier this month, and were tasked with choosing their own outfits. The categories included: Bright Attractions (spring wear), business wear, beachwear, A Night in Hollywood, and A Couples Affair.
About 20 students participated in the event, which was MC’d by Mark Vortice of the Aaron E. Henry Community Health Center. CCC’s Delta Jewels and DJ Big V provided entertainment.
“Events like this are very important because it gives students a chance to show off their creativity and talents,” said Brown. “It also instills responsibility as the students helped with the planning and organizing.”
The fun continued with a Tiger Fest Wednesday outside of the Zee A. Baron Student Union followed by a Neon Party Wednesday night, also in the student union.
Springfest activities will conclude at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Pinnacle with crowing of Mr. and Miss CCC 2014-2015, Cadarious Cannon and Lauren Williams, during the annual Coronation.
