October 2017 Employees of the Month

CLARKSDALE – Coahoma Community College is proud to announce its October 2017 faculty and staff Employees of the Month.

Honored as the faculty Employee of the Month is Charles Smith of Clarksdale, MS.

Smith received an associate’s degree in Nursing from Shelby State Community College, a bachelor's degree in Nursing from Mississippi University for Women and a master's degree in Nursing (educator track) from Delta State University.

He has a broad background in the nursing field, beginning his career as an orthopedic attendant for four years prior to completing the ADN program and as a contract nurse.

Smith has several years of experience as a charge nurse and as a staff nurse in various hospital units, including Cardiac Telemetry, Coronary Care, and Cardiac Catheterization.

He joined CCC as a faculty member in 2006.

Smith said his job provides him with a sense of purpose.

“I enjoy the opportunity to help those desiring to become a nurse to help their fellowman,” he said. “I also enjoy the chance to instill or facilitate the development of the old-fashioned value of treating others as we would like to be treated.”

Smith said he is surprised to be named Employee of the Month.

“I’m flattered, honored and confused,” he said. “I can’t think of anything special I’ve done to deserve it.”

Outside of work, Smith enjoys playing disc golf, fishing, target shooting, and motorcycle riding.

Honored as the staff Employee of the Month is LaShundra Harris Crittle.

A native of Lambert, MS, Crittle received a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Delta State University.

She then moved to Watertown, NY and worked with teens at The Children’s Home of Jefferson County for two years before returning to Delta State to compete a master’s degree in Counselor Education.

Crittle joined CCC’s staff in 2014 as an Academic Counselor. She’s also in her second year as the CCC Early College Liaison with the Coahoma Early College High School.

Crittle said she is passionate about helping students succeed.

“I certainly enjoy the relationship building with my students,” she said. “You know, love and kindness go a long way and most times when you are away in college you tend to not receive it as much because you’re trying to balance academic workloads, stress and life. …Every now and then we all need to hear an encouraging word as simple as “you got this!”

Crittle said he’s humbled to be named Employee of the Month.

“When I was told I was the Employee of the Month I actually felt my face light up,” she said. “It’s a great recognition, and I am thankful.”

Outside of work, you will probably find Crittle with her Nikon in her hand as she loves art and photography.

The purpose of CCC’s Employee of the Month program is to recognize and reward faculty and staff who exhibit work and behaviors that support and further the mission, goals, values and initiatives of Coahoma Community College.

Each Employee of the Month winner receives a picture, a designated parking spot, a shirt from CCC’s Bookstore, a hair style or cut courtesy of CCC’s Cosmetology/Barbering Department, marquee announcement and website recognition.
