CLARKSDALE – On Friday afternoon, Coahoma Community College will join community members in remembering a beloved Tiger while becoming educated on heart disease during “A Walk for Keys.”

Hosted at 3 p.m. April 28 at the CCC Fit for Life Walking Trail, the event will be hosted in memory of Eric Keys of Marks, MS.

Keys, who served as CCC’s director of student success, passed away April 9, 2017. He was 47-years-old.

The event is designed to honor Keys through raising awareness about heart disease prevention.

Activities will include special health presentations, a two-lap walk around the trail and the release of balloons personalized in Keys’ honor.

"A hearty word of thanks to (CCC Fit for Life Program Director) Letha Richards and all who are apart of our health and wellness initiative at CCC for having a desire to commemorate the life of a colleague, Mr. Eric Keys,” said CCC President Dr. Valmadge Towner.

“In our view, Mr. Keys' passing was untimely. Perhaps this event can raise awareness that all of us should place renewed emphasis on living as healthy as we possibly can."

The Fit for Life initiative at Coahoma Community College is funded by the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation.

Since 2015, the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation has provided almost $500,000 in funding to Coahoma Community College for the Fit for Life initiative that extends from the campus into the surrounding communities and schools.
