CLARKSDALE – Coahoma Community College (CCC) is partnering with a local non-profit organization to help create a pool of certified educators in the Mississippi Delta.

CCC’s Workforce Development Center has joined forces with Regional Initiative for Sustainable Education (RISE) to offer a Praxis Boot Camp.

Themed “Rising Together: Helping ALL Students Win,” the two-week camp is designed to help individuals pass the assessment given by state departments of education and colleges and universities to measure the academic achievement and proficiency of individuals entering or completing teacher preparation programs.

Slated from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 6-20 at CCC’s Workforce Development Center (located at 510 Sunbelt Drive, Clarksdale, MS), the camp is open to all interested individuals. However, special consideration will be given to those on special licenses and those currently working in K-12 schools located in the Mississippi Delta.

Registration is open through June 23 and includes an interview and reference check.

There is a $100 registration fee that includes six months of online test prep material. Scholarships are also available.

CCC Workforce Development Director Kyrie Antici said she believes the camp will be beneficial to school districts, particularly those within CCC’s five county district—Coahoma, Bolivar, Tunica, Quitman and Tallahatchie counties.

“We joined this partnership because we know there is a shortage of teachers in the Mississippi Delta, and now with the discontinuation of emergency licenses, the need is even greater,” she said.

“Our goal in this partnership is to help prepare educators to pass the PRAXIS exam. This, in turn, can help meet the need for certified teachers in all of the school districts within CCC’s five-county district.”

CCC’s Workforce Development Center is committed to preparing the future workforce by offering customized training designed to meet the specific needs of local businesses and industries.

Led by Adrienne White-Hudson of Clarksdale, MS, RISE is a Shelby, MS-based organization dedicated to conquering poverty by connecting communities in educational enhancement efforts.
