Who is eligible to take the PearsonVUE GED?

You may take the PearsonVUE GED exam if you are not enrolled in high school, and if you are 18 years old and out of school.  Special exceptions must be met by 16 and 17 year olds.

What do I have to do to pass the PearsonVUE GED?

You must be able to compute, interpret information and express yourself in writing on a level comparable to that of graduating high school seniors.

How much time does it take to complete the PearsonVUE GED?

The five tests take at least 7 ½ hours to complete.  Math is 115 minutes; Language Arts Reasoning is 150 minutes; Social Studies is 70 minutes; and Science is 90 minutes.

How much does it cost to take the PearsonVUE GED?

The cost of taking the GED is $120.00 for the five content areas and $30.00 for each subtest.  You must register and pay online to take your tests prior to testing.  Payments must be made via credit, debit card, or voucher.

What if I don’t pass part or all the test the first time?

You can take one or more parts of the test again.  You do not have to take the entire test.

How many times may I take the PearsonVUE GED?

Examinees can test 3 times on each subtest.  After that, you must wait 60 days to test again.  

What score must I make to pass the PearsonVUE GED?

To pass the GED, you must score 600 battery average.  You will need a score of 145 on each of the four content areas. The score range is as follows:

GED/College Ready: 170-200

Honors Passing Score: 170-200

Passing Score: 145-164

Below Passing: 100-144

You must score 2 out of 6 on the essay

How long does it take to get my PearsonVUE GED results?

GED results are usually available after the completion of each content area.  Writing takes 3-5 days to post. 

What accommodations are available for people with disabilities who want to take the HSE tests?

For candidates with a documents physical, sensory, emotional, or specific learning disability, special test accommodations are available.  Each request is considered on an individual basis.  A candidate must visit GED testing at for more information.
