Summer Nursing Residency Program
Program Description
The Summer Nursing Residency Program (SNRP) is a week-long program funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and is designed to give students a first-hand look at nursing through classroom experiences, clinical or shadowing experiences, hands-on practice, scavenger hunts, and on-campus living. Students will receive training in certain basic nursing skills and complete CPR training. In addition, recreational activities will be provided, which include sports, cookouts, movie night, and bowling.
The college provides housing, transportation to clinical sites, and meals to all students at no charge.
Purpose
The Summer Nursing Residency Program is designed for high school juniors and seniors from surrounding counties to cultivate students’ interest in nursing careers in an effort to identify potential nursing students for the LPN and ADN Programs.
Mission
The mission of SNRP is to increase the number of students who meet the admission requirements for the Licensed Practical Nursing Program and the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
Goals
- To improve academic skills
- To expose students to careers in nursing
- To improve social skills
- To increase the pool of qualified potential nursing students
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a junior or senior in high school
- Must attend a high school located in Bolivar, Coahoma, Quitman, Tallahatchie, or Tunica County
- Must have a strong desire and interest in nursing
- Must have at least a 2.75 (4.0 scale) or 3.75 (5.0 scale) grade point average
How to Apply
Students must complete an application packet that should include the following:
- SNRP application
- Official high school transcript
- Essay/personal statement
- Two recommendation forms
- Two recommendation letters
