What is The JASON Project?

A nonprofit subsidiary of the National Geographic Society, The JASON Project delivers middle grade science curricula, developed in conjunction with research explorations currently underway at NOAA, NASA and National Geographic. Through the standards based curricula and advanced use of technology, students learn science by “joining” scientists on their missions.

The JASON Project has positively affected millions of students and teachers over its 17-year history. JASON’s future is going to be more thrilling as it embarks on the largest curriculum redesign in its history. JASON’s goal is to remain the most exciting and relevant science program available.

About Monster Storms

The new Monster Storms curriculum will transport your classroom to the center of Earth’s most extreme weather. Students and teachers will team with leading scientists for an unforgettable “hurricane hunter” flight, chase tornadoes in Tornado Alley and probe the origins and dynamics of monster weather events.

Based on current research from NOAA, NASA and National Geographic, students and their teachers will become part of the JASON exploration team and embark as researchers on a mission to understand weather, climate and extreme storm events:

  • Hurricanes, tornadoes, thunderstorms and lightning
  • Weather dynamics and storm formation
  • Forecasting, warnings and safety precautions
  • Extreme weather impact and human interaction
  • Climate and global monitoring

Monster Storms is designed for grades 5-8 and covers key National Science Education Standards for Physical Science (Transfer of Energy and Properties and Changes in Matter); Earth Science (Structure of the Earth System) and Science in Personal and Social Perspectives (Understanding of Natural Hazards). The curriculum will also be aligned to Mississippi state standards.

Bring Monster Storms Into Your Classroom
