Term of Position: Academic Year (8 months) - Northside High School, Shelby, MS
Position Description:(primary functions)
- Academic Year Instructors, preferably in Math and English.
- Certified Teacher in Core Subject areas; previous tutoring experience preferred; strong interpersonal and communication, technology and organizational skills; positive model and can work independently.
- Work with UB participants during the academic year and summer program to provide instruction to participants in the core academic courses; help with projects, inform participants of program scheduling and changes; assist with successfully accomplishing program objectives.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; teaching certification in core subject required.
- Coursework in teaching, learning styles, disabilities, and curriculum planning is preferred.
- Minimum of two years teaching experience in a specific discipline on the secondary and/or postsecondary level.
- Experience working with low-income, high-risk students preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach core curriculum in required subject areas, ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives.
- Utilize effective teaching strategies and instructional methods to engage and support students with diverse learning needs.
- Monitor and assess student progress regularly, providing feedback and support as needed.
- Collaborate with other program staff to ensure coordinated support and services for participants.
- Communicate regularly with Upward Bound staff on the progress of participants, including academic achievements and challenges.
- Be available to communicate with participants and tutors via phone or email, providing additional assistance and support outside of classroom hours.
