Coahoma Community College has announced they will be offering free summer courses to assist students and families who may need to get ahead academically or economically during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The free classes and lack of a tuition increase are part of the college's response to help students and parents during a challenging economic period. Additionally, Coahoma has continued its status as the most affordable HBCU in the nation.

Coahoma CCC president Dr. Valmadge T. Towner says these deliberate actions are designed to aid students in persisting toward their individual academic and career finish lines.

"We are excited to use resources that have been made available to the institution to help students reach their academic and educational goals," said Towner.

Potential students will be offered up to 12 hours of free credit courses for the summer, including tuition, fees, and books.

"These CARES and HEERF resources have enabled the college to be able to help our students take these summer courses. So, we are excited about helping students as they try to reach their goals," Towner added.

Higher Education Emergency Relief funds will fund the summer classes. The funds were established in March 2020 as part of the $2.2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, or CARES.

Summer classes begin June 1. Current students are encouraged to register online, contact their advisors listed in their myCCC accounts, or email admissions@coahomacc.edu. After registering, a balance will be applied to students' myCCC account, but funds will be credited back for all tuition, fees, and books for summer 2022.

New and transfer students can visit the CCC online Admissions page at www.coahomacc.edu/admissions/, where they will find needed information about the application process.

Everyone taking for-credit classes is eligible, including current Coahoma students, those who are dual-enrolled, as well as incoming high school graduates, and other transfer students.
