Coahoma Community College joins the City of Clarksdale in recognizing Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, Sept.14-18, 2026, after Mayor Paden signed a proclamation emphasizing adult education’s role in workforce and family advancement.
Clarksdale Mayor Orlando W. Paden marked the observance by signing a proclamation highlighting the role adult education plays in strengthening the workforce, supporting families and creating opportunities throughout the community and state.
The annual observance draws attention to the importance of adult education and its impact on individuals working to improve academic skills, advance their careers and achieve greater economic stability. Accessible educational opportunities help adult learners pursue personal and professional goals while contributing to the growth of their communities.
The Adult Education Program provides opportunities for individuals to strengthen foundational academic and workforce skills, earn high school equivalency credentials, pursue career training and prepare for greater employment opportunities. By connecting education with workforce preparation and career pathways, the program equips students with the knowledge, skills and credentials needed to build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
The impact of adult education extends beyond the classroom. Each learner who reaches an educational milestone has the potential to change the trajectory of their family for generations. Those accomplishments contribute to a stronger workforce, more resilient families and thriving communities across Mississippi.
Throughout Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, Coahoma Community College recognizes the dedication and achievements of its adult learners, along with the instructors, staff, community partners and local leaders who support adult education.
