On Sept. 10, the Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter at Coahoma Community College participated in the 2026 Mississippi/Louisiana Region Fall Leadership Conference at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jackson County Campus in Gautier, Mississippi, where members took part in leadership development activities.
The two-day conference brought together Phi Theta Kappa members, officers and advisers from across Mississippi and Louisiana for leadership development, educational forums, networking and team-building activities.
Representing Coahoma’s Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter were Adrianna Tribble, a political science major from Clarksdale, Mississippi; A’Kyria Brown, a psychology major from Southaven, Mississippi; Karmese Leflore, a Healthcare Technology-Billing and Coding major from Tutwiler, Mississippi; Shakeria Ford, a pre-nursing major from Clarksdale, Mississippi; Charles Cooley, a physical therapy major from Goodwood, Mississippi; and Javion Dennis-Howard, a business administration major from Goodman, Mississippi. The students were accompanied by Monica Tompkins, Business and CIS instructor and PTK contact adviser, and Amquita Taylor, academic counselor, who served as a chaperone.
A conference highlight was the induction of Brown as the Northern Mississippi Representative, officially welcoming her as a regional officer. In the role, Brown will represent PTK chapters throughout northern Mississippi while gaining additional leadership experience at the regional level.
The conference activities began with a welcome from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College administrators, followed by updates from Phi Theta Kappa headquarters presented by Jennifer Stanford, senior director of student leadership for PTK. After chapter roll call and the regional officer induction, attendees heard from guest speaker Christian Hartley, president of Cadence Bank and chair of the United Way for Jackson, George and Greene Counties.
The second day included a college fair, educational forums and a presentation from Tee McCovey, president and CEO of the United Way for Jackson, George and Greene Counties.
Alpha Omicron Pi members and officers participated in educational sessions focused on academic, professional and leadership development. Topics included “Resume Writing,” “Preparing Your Digital Footprint for the Workforce,” Honors in Action research, “Building Bridges for the College Project,” “The Action Component of Honors in Action” and “Taking Your Leadership to the International Level.”
The Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter, along with Tompkins and Taylor, also led a team-building forum for conference participants. The interactive session included Rubber-Band Cup Stacking, Crossing Galaxies, the Team Pen Challenge and a Memory Relay. Activities emphasized communication, collaboration, problem-solving and teamwork.
Participation in the 2026 Mississippi/Louisiana Region Fall Leadership Conference gave Alpha Omicron Pi members opportunities to connect with fellow PTK members, strengthen leadership skills and bring new knowledge and ideas back to the chapter and Coahoma Community College.
