(Clarksdale, Mississippi) — Coahoma Community College (CCC) served as the site of an important community safety initiative on Thursday, April 10, 2025, as Higher Purpose Community Academy hosted a First Aid and CPR training session in Curry Hall, Classroom #104. The training was led by CCC’s own Athletic Director, Selina Reid, and took place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Open to students, faculty, staff, and local residents, the event was designed to equip participants with essential emergency response skills. Attendees received hands-on training in First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and upon completion, were awarded certification from the American Red Cross.
Selina Reid, a respected leader in athletics and health education, facilitated the session with energy and expertise, providing real-world scenarios and personalized instruction to ensure participants were thoroughly prepared. Her commitment to health and safety education made a strong impression on attendees.
“This training is about preparation, confidence, and service,” said Reid. “Everyone—regardless of their profession or background—should have the knowledge and skills to act in an emergency. It can truly save lives.”
By making the training available to the public, the event not only reinforced the mission of Higher Purpose Community Academy but also aligned with CCC’s broader goal of serving as a center for learning, outreach, and community empowerment.
Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity, with many highlighting how the skills learned would serve them in personal, academic, and professional settings—especially those pursuing careers in healthcare, education, coaching, and emergency services.
The event was a testament to the power of community collaboration, combining the outreach efforts of Higher Purpose Community Academy with the leadership and facilities of Coahoma Community College. Together, the organizations created a safe, supportive environment where participants could gain life-saving skills that will serve them for years to come.
