(Clarksdale, Miss.) — Coahoma Community College is proud to announce a new partnership with Atmos Energy that will provide valuable internship opportunities for students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The initiative will offer students paid, hands-on work experience designed to strengthen their technical skills and prepare them for careers in the energy industry.
The Atmos Energy Operations Internship is designed for students pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in a technical discipline. The program allows participants to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting while gaining exposure to the natural gas industry and the daily operations of one of the nation’s leading energy providers.
Interns will have the opportunity to learn and observe a variety of operational areas within Atmos Energy, including service operations, construction, damage prevention, measurement, leak investigation, and emergency response. Under the supervision and guidance of experienced employees, students will shadow professionals across multiple job classifications and gain a comprehensive understanding of the company’s operational processes.
“As Dean of Career and Technical Education, I am proud to announce our partnership with Atmos Energy to provide internship opportunities for our CTE students who major in Welding, HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, or Electrical Technology,” said Dr. Larry Webster, Dean of Career and Technical Education at Coahoma Community College. “This collaboration strengthens the connection between classroom learning and real-world experiences, giving our students valuable hands-on training and exposure to careers in the energy sector.”
“We are committed to preparing a highly skilled workforce, and this partnership is an important step in expanding opportunities for student success and supporting the needs of our community.”
The internship is open to students who are at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, and are currently enrolled in a technical or Associate of Applied Science program at an accredited institution. Participants are also expected to demonstrate basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
Through this partnership, Coahoma Community College joins other Mississippi community colleges participating in the initiative. The collaboration reflects a statewide effort to strengthen workforce development by connecting students with high-demand career pathways and providing meaningful industry experience that supports long-term career success.
This initiative aligns with Coahoma’s ongoing commitment to providing students with industry-relevant training, career exploration opportunities, and direct connections to employers. By combining classroom instruction with paid, hands-on experience, the program helps students build the technical competencies, professional skills, and industry awareness needed to successfully transition into the workforce.
Atmos Energy Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer and provides equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
