(Clarksdale, Mississippi) — Coahoma Community College Workforce Development will celebrate its Adult Education and Workforce Development graduates at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the CCC Safe House in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Nikitna Barnes, assistant director of Adult Education for Grants and Special Programs at the Mississippi Community College Board, will serve as keynote speaker.

The ceremony will recognize graduates who have completed adult education and workforce development programs designed to prepare individuals for continued education, career advancement, and lifelong success. Barnes, a respected leader in adult education, will deliver remarks highlighting the transformative impact of education, workforce training, and opportunity across Mississippi.

With more than 14 years of experience in the nonprofit and education sectors, Barnes has dedicated her career to supporting at-risk students and strengthening communities through strategic outreach, resource development, and evidence-based initiatives. She earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Education from Alcorn State University.

As assistant director of Adult Education for Grants and Special Programs at the Mississippi Community College Board, Barnes oversees major grant initiatives that support adult education programs statewide. She works collaboratively with all 15 of Mississippi's community colleges to expand educational access, improve student outcomes, and strengthen workforce readiness for adult learners.

Barnes is recognized across Mississippi and nationally for her expertise in adult education and program development. She played a significant role in creating Mississippi's Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (MIBEST) model, an initiative that combines adult education with workforce training to help learners earn credentials while preparing for high demand careers.

The Adult Education and Workforce Development Graduation is open to graduates, their families, community supporters, and partners who have contributed to student success. The event celebrates perseverance, achievement, and the continued commitment of Coahoma Community College to preparing students for meaningful careers and lifelong learning.
