Though the music, lights, pomp, and circumstance have ended, the Coahoma campus is still beaming from the recent generosity and support of the Coahoma Community College Board of Trustees.

At the event, which took place during Coahoma Forever: Homecoming 2021, attendees convened from far and wide to raise needed funds for deserving Coahoma students. The highlight of the evening was the recognition of individuals who made substantial contributions to the CCC Foundation that directly benefit students. Many of the individuals recognized included several Coahoma board members who tirelessly worked to raise and donate large financial gifts to the institution.

The board of trustees is a group of individuals appointed to manage and govern the assets of Coahoma Community College. The board's utmost duty is to protect the organization's best interests through decisions made on its behalf.

Josephine Rhymes, vice president of the CCC Foundation, is excited to witness such generosity being made by the board and others. She hopes that the support of Coahoma Community College and its students continues for many years to come.

"On behalf of the CCC Foundation board, I am sincerely thankful for the generosity made by individuals in helping us reach our goal for the Presidential Gala. We are thrilled to have the support," said Rhymes. "Through your donations, we are able to continue to move Coahoma to higher heights. Our CCC advocates' support and kindness genuinely make a difference for us, and we are extremely grateful."

One of the board of trustees' primary responsibilities is to uphold the fiduciary duty to protect all of the college's assets and funds in trust. The overarching fiduciary duty includes the duties of care, obedience, and loyalty, which means that a trustee must place the institution's interests above their own when making decisions on behalf of the Coahoma Community College. The recent acts of kindness show that the board is invested in the institution's future.

CCC President Dr. Valmadge T. Towner is thankful to have the support of a responsive and dutiful board.

"Modeling the way… Inspiring others… Encouraging the heart… Putting your money where your mouth is… These are merely some aphorisms that can accurately depict the manner in which our board of trustees supported the recent 10th Annual Presidential Gala," said Towner.

The board is comprised of individuals from across Coahoma's five-county service area. The group's members come from diverse occupational backgrounds, making the board competent in guiding the affairs of the college.

"Collectively, board members supported the presidential gala financially at an unprecedented level. They personally contributed to the gala, and they encouraged many of their friends to support the gala. I was pleasantly astonished at the board's eagerness to support this valuable cause that helps students attending CCC," Towner added.
