The MYSTATUS (Maximize Your Skills To Advance To Unlimited Success) program empowers youth and young adults to explore career pathways, strengthen workforce readiness, and receive the support needed for lasting academic and career development. Through mentorship, targeted training, and personalized barrier-removal planning, MYSTATUS helps students recognize their strengths, set meaningful goals, and confidently pursue fulfilling careers.
One powerful example of this mission in action is the journey of Jamaya Jones. When she started college, Jamaya was uncertain about her direction. Although she
initially considered a pre-nursing track, her experience in MYSTATUS combined with
her personal reflection helped her uncover a deeper passion for healthcare. Encouraged
by program mentors and academic advisors, she enrolled in the Licensed Practical Nursing
(LPN) program at Coahoma Community College.
The path forward was far from simple. Jamaya encountered challenges familiar to many new college students. But through perseverance, motivation, and steady support from MYSTATUS mentors and her instructors, she remained focused and successfully completed the LPN program. Her commitment was on full display when she passed the NCLEX on her first attempt, finishing in just 85 questions—an exceptional milestone that highlights both her skill and preparation.
Today, Jamaya is continuing her academic advancement by pursuing her Registered Nurse
(RN) degree at Delta State University. She is also gaining hands-on clinical experience
through part-time work at Delta Health and Rehab Nursing Home, further developing
her skillset as a compassionate healthcare professional. Her achievements are recognized
in the PY 2024 WIOA Annual Report (p.31):

Jamaya’s story is one of growth, resilience, and purpose. What began with uncertainty has evolved into a confident pursuit of a meaningful career in healthcare. Her success demonstrates the power of encouragement, opportunity, and personal determination. As Jamaya says, “When purpose meets perseverance, greatness follows.”
As Ms. Linda Williams, DWDA Youth Coordinator for MYSTATUS, noted, “Jamaya was an engaged participant who fully utilized the resources offered through the MYSTATUS program. She leveraged these supports to effectively advance her nursing education and career goals.”
