N Watts

This summer, Dr. Nakisha Watts, who hails from Lambert, Mississippi, filled the position of registrar and director of Admissions and Records.

Watts says she is thrilled to be part of the dynamic Admissions Office team. She carries beneficial experience as a manager of a set of programs that ensured health education and awareness for 10 school districts and more than 20 counties in the state of Mississippi. Under her leadership, more than 2500 Mississippi Delta students were recruited each year. In addition, she grew relationships with key stakeholders in the community.

Watts hopes to utilize the skills developed to produce those successful results to bolster Coahoma Community College enrollment.

She aims to guide her team toward providing exceptional customer service.

"I plan to continue to display the Admissions Office of being the first people the students fall in love with before they enter our campus," said Watts.

Watts received her bachelor's in business administration from Rust College. She advanced her expertise with a master's from Mississippi Valley State University, which led to a doctoral degree in higher education from Jackson State University.

To prospective students, she says, "There are many who have walked through the doors of college campuses with different backgrounds, different life experiences, and in different stages of life and have succeeded! And so can you! It takes perseverance, determination, prayer and a community and family that exists at Coahoma Community College."

With staff, she has begun instituting recruitment strategies aligned with COVID-19 safety guidelines. Watts looks forward to Facebook Live sessions, virtual recruitment events, maintaining visibility in the community, and collaborating with faith-based organizations in Coahoma's five-county service area.

She would also like to discuss plans for enrolling future students with high school counselors and principals and get alumni involved.

Watts is the wife of Dejuan Watts Sr and the mother of two, Harlem Mulan and Dejuan Kingston. For her, spare time well-spent involves reading, visiting museums, and family.

A Marie Curie quote reflecting her philosophy on life reads, "Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more so that we may fear less."
