(Clarksdale, Mississippi) — On November 13, 2024, officers of the Alpha Omicron Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society at Coahoma Community College met with Dr. Valmadge Towner, President of Coahoma Community College, to discuss their innovative College Project, titled Campus Navigation Proposal 2024. This initiative aims to address a long-standing challenge for both students and visitors: navigating the campus with ease.

The chapter’s officers, including President Fred Dumas, Vice President of Media Jamari Gladney, Vice President of Membership and Northern Region Officer Cimmion Ross, and Chapter Advisor Mr. Joharrison Rockett, presented a detailed plan designed to improve campus accessibility. The proposal focuses on the installation of clear, directional signage to guide individuals to classrooms, administrative offices, and event venues. Additionally, the project includes the creation of a comprehensive campus brochure to further assist students and visitors in finding their way.

“This initiative demonstrates the leadership and community commitment that Phi Theta Kappa is known for,” said Chapter Advisor Mr. Joharrison Rockett. “By tackling a practical issue, our members are not only improving the campus experience but also embodying the values of service and collaboration.”

The proposed improvements are designed to reduce confusion, enhance the overall campus experience, and ensure that everyone—from first-time visitors to current students—can easily navigate the campus. The proposal is now under consideration by the college administration, with plans to begin the installation process upon approval.

Dr. Towner praised the chapter’s proactive approach, noting that projects like these highlight the importance of student leadership in shaping the college’s future. “The dedication and foresight demonstrated by the Alpha Omicron Phi Chapter reflect the highest ideals of Coahoma Community College and Phi Theta Kappa. This project will undoubtedly make a lasting impact.”

Phi Theta Kappa’s Campus Navigation Proposal 2024 exemplifies the organization’s mission to promote leadership, service, and academic excellence. Through initiatives like this, the chapter continues to foster a positive, supportive environment for all members of the Coahoma Community College family.
