Following safety guidelines to guard against COVID-19, members of the Student Government Association received actual badges of honor stating their names and roles in a pinning ceremony. Throughout the 2020-2021 school term, SGA leaders invested time in ensuring that they met the holistic needs of the Coahoma Community College student body. To minimize chances for a coronavirus spread, family members and friends supported the honorees via a Facebook livestream.

The ceremony represents the CCC administration's entrusting of student leaders with the maintenance and enhancement of student life.

Student Government Association leaders are advocates for their fellow Tigers and are qualified by scholarship and tenacity to serve. Duties carried out include reviewing campus programs and policies to make certain the institution responds appropriately to any situation. The SGA essentially serves as the voice of the students. Some have been elected by the student body to fill integral roles.

Director of Student Engagement Karen Done delivered the keynote address. Done fed the team motivational chunks, likening the student representatives to micro-sized ants. She reflected on an occurrence where she and her daughter noticed an ant carrying a speck of food.

"It's amazing how an ant takes on a task, no matter how big it is or how intimidating it may look," said Done.

"That observation got me to thinking, 'If I were an ant, would I have lifted that huge crumb by myself, or would I have just back away?'"

Hoping to instill courage, she began detailing the fascinating qualities of an ant.

Done continued concluding, "Ants aren't intimidated by the sheer size of the objects they need to carry, so why should you be?"

The delicate insect displays additional characteristics individuals can learn from, including their ability to tackle tasks that seem impossible, work as a team, stay committed to organization, and follow through with goals.

"I've never seen a group of ants leave what they're carrying and just call it a day. They persevere and make sure they get the job done," Done shared. "I urge you to take the time and reflect on the traits that these ants have and how you can apply them to your life as a leader today and forever."

After expressing gratitude for the keynote address, Coahoma Community College president Dr. Valmadge T. Towner followed up with the admirable traits of a tiger, unsurprisingly the College's mascot.

A tiger is noted for its capacity to focus and leap several times more than its body length, Towner mentioned.
