(Clarksdale, Mississippi) — A spirit of pride, purpose, and perseverance filled the Pinnacle on Saturday, May 10, as Coahoma Community College honored the Class of 2025 during its annual Commencement Ceremony. With family, friends, faculty, and community members in attendance, the college recognized the achievements of more than 400 graduates during the ceremony, with over 600 degrees and certificates to be awarded in total this academic year.

The program featured a stirring keynote address by Dr. Donzell Lee, president of Tougaloo College, who brought words of encouragement and motivation to the graduates. Dr. Lee’s message focused on living with intentionality, overcoming life’s obstacles, and embracing each opportunity with determination.

“We all have a calling,” Dr. Lee said. “It’s not about where you start, but how you press forward—keep walking in your purpose, and doors will open. Use your education as a tool to build not just a career, but a life rooted in service, passion, and excellence.”

In addition to celebrating the Class of 2025, the ceremony paid tribute to the Golden Class of 1975, marking 50 years since their graduation. A total of 61 alumni from Coahoma Agricultural High School and 12 alumni from Coahoma Junior College returned to their alma mater for a special recognition. Many were visibly moved as they walked across the stage once again—this time as honored guests.

“This moment is not just about looking forward; it’s also about honoring those who paved the way,” said CCC President Dr. Valmadge T. Towner. “Our Golden Class represents the rich legacy and enduring spirit of Coahoma. Their continued connection to the college is a testament to the strength of our Tiger family.”

Graduates crossed the stage to cheers and applause, many with cords, stoles, and medals marking their academic honors, campus leadership, and organizational involvement. The ceremony celebrated not only academic achievement but also the perseverance and personal growth that define the Coahoma experience.

“This moment is not just about looking forward; it’s also about honoring those who paved the way,” said CCC President Dr. Valmadge T. Towner. “Our Golden Class serves as a shining example of the enduring power of education.”

Over 600 credentials will be awarded to students this year, highlighting the broad scope of Coahoma's academic and career-technical programs. Graduates will go on to four-year institutions, enter the workforce, or pursue specialized career paths in healthcare, education, business, engineering, and the arts.

The ceremony concluded with the traditional turning of the tassels, signifying the transition from student to graduate—a proud and emotional moment for many in attendance.

“This day symbolizes more than just earning a diploma,” said Jeremiah Harris, Valedictorian. “It’s a reminder that every late night, every sacrifice, every challenge was worth it.”

As the Class of 2025 embarks on the next chapter of their lives, Coahoma Community College remains committed to empowering students and transforming lives through accessible, high-quality education.
