(Clarksdale, Mississippi) - Coahoma Community College was the proud host of the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) Regional Middle School Math Tournament last Thursday. The event attracted scores of students from various schools across the region, all eager to display their mathematical talents.
Under the leadership of Kamayah Johnson, President of the Math & Science Club at CCC, and the entire organizing team, the day was filled with intellectual challenge and excitement. The participants, students from seventh and eighth grades, were greeted with an invigorating welcome speech that underscored the integral role of mathematics in our world—from technology to architecture.
The competition was intense and inspiring, with Josiah Lewis from Clarksdale Collegiate Public Charter School and Ohm Patel from Cleveland Central Middle School taking home first place in their respective grades. The event also saw Mareelyn Winters and Delvin Miller achieving second place in the 7th and 8th grades, respectively, highlighting the depth of talent among the participants.
Shadiah Robinson, Vice-President of the CCC Math & Science Club, meticulously outlined the day's schedule and provided the contestants with all the necessary details to navigate the challenges ahead. This structured guidance ensured that every participant was able to perform to the best of their abilities in a supportive environment.
As the tests concluded, the community, including teachers, parents, and fellow students, gathered to celebrate the achievements of all participants. The awards ceremony was not just a recognition of the winners but a celebration of the spirit of learning and collaboration that characterized the entire event.
