jpitt(Clarksdale, Miss.) — Coahoma Community College proudly announces that Jeremy Pittman, Honors College Director and Business & Computer Information Systems Instructor, has been selected to serve as a member of the Students Learn Students Vote (SLSV) Coalition’s 2026 Advisory Board. Pittman was chosen from a competitive national pool of applicants committed to advancing nonpartisan student civic participation in higher education.

The SLSV Coalition is the nation’s largest nonpartisan network dedicated to increasing civic engagement, voter education, and registration among college students. The coalition works with higher education institutions, nonprofit partners, and community-based organizations to reduce barriers to voting and encourage informed participation in democracy. Through its programming and national partnerships, SLSV supports colleges and universities in fostering civic responsibility as a core component of student development and success.

Pittman expressed his appreciation for the appointment, noting the role’s broader importance to student learning and empowerment. “I am humbled to represent the college in this role advocating for voting education and engagement,” he said. “Ensuring students have access to credible information, opportunities to get involved, and pathways to make their voices heard is essential to their growth as leaders and citizens. I look forward to contributing to this work on a national scale.”

As a member of the 2026 Advisory Board, Pittman will collaborate with leaders across the country to help shape the coalition’s strategic priorities. Advisory Board responsibilities include:

  • Attending a minimum of three national Advisory Board meetings during the 2026 calendar year
  • Serving the full term from January 19, 2026, through December 31, 2026
  • Contributing to collective goals for nonpartisan student civic engagement
  • Participating in monthly coalition meetings and working groups
  • Identifying and recommending speakers for coalition programming
  • Supporting development and execution of the 2026 National Student Vote Summit
  • Reviewing subgrant applications, if funding becomes available (with recusal requirements for affiliated applicants)

Pittman’s appointment aligns with Coahoma Community College’s ongoing efforts to strengthen civic learning and awareness among its student body. In recent years, the college has expanded voter education events, hosted informational sessions on civic participation, and provided resources encouraging eligible students to register and engage in elections. These efforts reflect Coahoma’s broader mission of preparing students to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world beyond the classroom.

Pittman's selection is a testament not only to his leadership but also to the momentum Coahoma is building in the area of civic educations. Student voices matter, and this recognition further connects our students to national strategies and networks supporting democratic participation.

Coahoma Community College congratulates Pittman on this prestigious national recognition and looks forward to the collaborative impact his service will have on advancing student civic engagement both locally and across the country.
