(Clarksdale, Mississippi) — Coahoma Community College Adult Education will host a computer distribution event Wednesday, April 29, at 10:00 a.m. inside the Safe House (Tornado Shelter) on the main campus in Clarksdale, Miss., to support increasing computer ownership within the community.

The event marks the local launch of the 3 Southern States Connected Communities Program, an ongoing collaboration with AT&T and Digitunity. Throughout the program, 230 laptops will be distributed to participants.

"This collaboration with AT&T and Digitunity gives our students the technology they need to succeed in their educational journeys," said Tamara Washington-Travis, director of adult education. "By providing these devices, we are hoping to break down barriers, help our students achieve their goals sooner and help them prepare for a brighter future."

This local distribution effort directly supports the broader objectives of the collaborating organizations to close the digital divide and provide equitable access to necessary technology. For residents of the Mississippi Delta, reliable access to computers and digital skills training can be a life-changing catalyst, expanding pathways to higher education, workforce development, and economic mobility.

"Digitunity's mission is straightforward: make computer ownership possible for everyone," said Scot Henley, executive director of Digitunity. "When students own a computer, the door to education, employment, and opportunity stays open. Our collaboration with Coahoma Community College goes back to our first project together, and continuing that work — now through the 3 Southern States Connected Communities Program supported by AT&T — is exactly the kind of sustained, community-rooted investment that creates lasting change."

Prior to this distribution, students have been utilizing the college's computer lab to complete their coursework. The provided laptops will allow current cohort members to continue their education with greater flexibility. The initiative also features Connected Learning Digital Skills Workshops, designed to help students maximize the use of their new equipment. Following the launch, the program will distribute follow-up surveys to laptop recipients to measure student outcomes and gather personal success profiles.
