(Clarksdale, Mississippi) — Coahoma Community College is proud to announce the launch of its new Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) program—a comprehensive short-term training opportunity designed to equip students with the skills and experience needed to enter the fast-growing healthcare field.
This hybrid program offers a flexible learning structure with face-to-face evening classes twice a week and virtual modules twice a week, making it ideal for working adults or recent high school graduates looking to start a rewarding career in healthcare.
The CCMA program prepares students to serve as multi-skilled health professionals capable of performing both administrative and clinical tasks under a physician’s supervision. Administrative responsibilities may include scheduling appointments, managing medical records, and handling billing and coding. Clinical training focuses on patient care, including taking vital signs, drawing blood, preparing patients for exams, and administering medications.
Students will complete 400 total hours of lecture, lab, and clinical externship. Upon completion, they will be eligible to sit for multiple nationally recognized certification exams through the National Health Career Association (NHA), including:
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
- Certified EKG Technician (CET)
This program is made possible through the Accelerate MS Allied Health Grant, supporting Mississippi's efforts to expand its healthcare workforce.
Program Requirements:
- Online coursework
- Twice-weekly face-to-face lab days
- Three-week full-time on-site clinical externship
- Daily reading assignments and online module completion
- Maroon scrubs required for all class activities
- Travel to clinical sites required
Enrollment Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Copy of immunization records
- Recent physical/medical examination
- TB skin test
- ACT score of 16 or higher or completion of the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE)
Program Cost: $2,100
Note: This program is not eligible for federal financial aid; however, tuition assistance is available. Students must be accepted into the program before applying for tuition assistance.
Most graduates will find employment opportunities in physicians’ offices, hospitals, outpatient clinics, and other healthcare settings. With the integration of administrative and clinical training, the CCMA program provides a solid foundation for individuals eager to join the healthcare industry quickly and confidently.
